Tour of Portugal - tradition, culture and history
In this tour, you will have a chance to discover Portugal from North to South. The tour starts in Porto, a city with a mix of tradition and modernity and one of the most saught for destinations in Europe.
One of the highlights of this program is the Baroque city of Braga and medieval Guimarães – UNESCO World Heritage site. You will learn about the history and origins of this country. Going further south we visit Lisbon - the city of multiple charms, modern and vibrant capital with many monuments, azulejos and seaview hills. Finally, take the chance to explore the famous Algarve with its white fishing villages and golden sunny beaches.
Day 1
Arrival to Porto
Arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Visit one of the many cellars to admire the caves where you will find the famous Port wine and taste its different types. Dinner (if applicable), overnight.
Day 2
Porto
After breakfast, check the modern but also interesting face of the city. Visit 'Casa da Musica' designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, Serralves Foundation and its gardens, the city park and the Foz quarter on the coast line, facing the sea. Visit the National Theater S.João in Batalha. Dinner (if included), overnight.
Day 3
Porto | Guimarães | Braga
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day visit to the Minho region, the cities of Braga and Guimarães. Return to Porto in the afternoon. Free time for personal activities before dinner. Overnight.
Day 4
Porto | Lisbon
Breakfast. Check-out. Train to Lisbon. Check-in the hotel. Walk to Rossio square, one of Lisbon's main tourist highlights, with the building of the National Theather in it. Follow to the Baixa Area, with the commercial parallel streets leading to Terreiro do Paco square by the river. Dinner. Return to the hotel, overnight.
Day 5
Lisbon
After breakfast, visit the S.Jorge Castle area, where Lisbon “was born”, the old city and Tagus River. Discover Alfama, the oldest district of Lisbon, visit the Museu do Fado. At Restauradores square, take the elevator to reach S.Pedro de Alcantara garden, with views over the city valley then Principe Real area.
Day 6
Lisbon
After breakfast we make our way to the Belem area to taste the famous Pasteis de Belém. Then we visit the Jeronimos Monastery and the Belem Cultural Center. Later Torre de Belem and Padrao dos Descobrimentos. lastly, we explore the modern side of Lisbon. We will visit the World Expo, with modern pavillions, shops and the Oceanario aquarium.
Day 7
Lisbon | Sintra | Cascais
After breakfast, day visit to Sintra, Departure to Cascais, touristic village near Lisbon. Later we go to Estoril, which is home to several artistic festivals and known for its famous Casino. Return to Lisbon by the afternoon.
Day 8
Lisbon | Albufeira | Lagos
After breakfast, departure to the Algarve region. Take the train (2nd class tickets) to Albufeira. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in Lagos. Enjoy a boat tour (if applicable) in the blue waters, around the caves and the naturally sculpted rocks. After dinner, return to the hotel , overnight.
Day 9
Lagos | Faro
After breakfast take part in a tour along the Algarve coast to Faro. The tour will stop in nice villages like Carvoeiro, Albufeira and others. We will reach faro by the afternoon. In the city, by the waters, you can find a small historical center with some interesting buildings.
Day 10
Faro | Lisbon
After breakfast, return by fast train to Lisbon (about 2-3 hrs). Transfer to the airport.
